The mind and heart of Solana Beach Presbyterian Church have been stirred by the plight of the third of the world's population that lives in distinct cultures that have little or no access to the gospel. While many in our San Diego neighborhoods have not responded positively to the gospel, few if any are unreached by the gospel. Nearly everyone in San Diego could walk five minutes in any direction and run into someone who could tell them the good news in a way that they could understand. These people are unsaved, but they are not unreached.
In stark contrast, a third of the world's population, 2 billion people, live in distinct "people groups," language, tribal, cultural groups, where the gospel has not been planted. These we call "unreached people groups." Experts estimate that there are some 8000 of these people groups. The groups have little access to the gospel because the followers of Christ have overlooked their plight. More than 90% of all mission resources are concentrated among those groups that have had the gospel for decades. In the past quarter century, the worldwide church has awakened to this grave disparity, and a "frontier mission" movement has been launched, getting the gospel to where it has yet to go. SBPC is deeply committed to this growing emphasis and we support agencies and missionaries who are addressing this great need.
In addition we have adopted one of these unreached people groups. For security puposes, we cannot print the name of this Muslim group in Ethiopia, so we call them "Our Friends." You can read about them on our Ethiopia Partnership page.
