Friendship House, Center for Learning
Our name says it all
Casa de Amistad, Centro de Enseñanza is a nonprofit, faith-based organization dedicated to fostering education and character development of Hispanic children and their families from the North County coastal region of San Diego County.
Mentors are making a difference everyday. A kindergarten aged child, as her English comprehension improves by the middle of the year has an "Ah-Hah" moment when she understands what her tutor is trying to show her. One child in particular proudly said, "I can read!”
One fifth grade boy was reading at only a first grade level but consistently demonstrated a fifth grade level of proficiency in math. His teachers and his CASA tutor reached out to one another to work together to provide tailored teaching material for him. His reading ability is improving noticeably and his interest level in his school work has increased. Very real examples of Casa de Amistad making a difference are seen in the faces of our students’ parents – their gratitude cannot be measured.
