God's Plan is So Much Bigger
God on the Move - LTW 1/6/12
I was able to attend the MOPS (Mother's of Preschoolers) convention in Nashville, TN thanks to a grant through the Kingdom Builder's Foundation. At the convention, Andria, MOPS' Creative Activities leader, and I heard about other MOPS groups doing a gingerbread decorating house competition. We heard that it helps build community working together on a common goal, and it is festive and fun. So, the Creative Activities team decided to embrace the event!
However, what were we going to do with 11 gingerbread houses? Marna, MOPS' Service Leader, arranged to have four houses delivered to the resident home, Vida Del Mar, where MOPS did a trick or treat parade. Now we needed a home for seven more.
I contacted Cindy Wright (my new hero) in the Mature Adults Ministry. She emailed me a list of people who, for numerous reasons-mostly medical, were "shut-ins."
When I started calling these wonderful people and offering a decorated gingerbread house, the response was amazing! Several caregivers for the people whom we were giving the gingerbread house to, knew MOPS and/ or SPBC. When I told them that we wanted to give them a gingerbread house, they were surprised, delighted, and appreciative beyond measure.
Their responses were SO precious. Their enthusiasm was contagious. You'd think we were delivering pots of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. They felt so blessed! They anticipated the delivery as a young child awaits Santa's delivery on Christmas morning.
The joy that was created by sharing the gingerbread houses with other people was magnified when we made the deliveries. God's hand was in it ALL the way. He helped the deliveries go smoothly. He sent a neighbor to come and help during one delivery. He created a moment in time, that was pure JOY-for the creators of the house, the deliverers, and the recipients of the house.
Such a simple gift, and such a BIG, BIG JOY! God's joy! This little event became more profound than I ever anticipated! I feel like I was the one getting the gift!
