Melissa started her journey with Christ late in life, 6 years ago in conjunction with the loss of one of her children to cancer. Max, her middle child, was diagnosed with cancer when he was three years old and battled the disease for four years. Toward the end of Max's life, her husband, Andy, and she knew that Max would not survive and that all three of their kids needed to know about heaven. Until then, they had not attended church. She came seeking answers, not just why did her child get cancer, but, more importantly, how does she talk to her kids about the imminent outcome of Max's cancer? How does she tell a 9, 7 and 3 year old that one of them is going to die? She found the answers here at SBPC and much more. Being asked to serve as the Deacon for Prayer Practices & Gatherings was an interesting request and showed her that God does have a sense of where each of us need a little push. She loves this opportunity to serve, and feels blessed to have been called upon.
