SBPC WORSHIP TEAM EXPECTATIONS
We worship God in community with authenticity, diversity and passion. We belong to one another through faith in Jesus and participation in his church. We grow in small groups through transformational relationships, Bible study and prayer. We serve with uncommon generosity giving our time, spiritual gifts and financial resources. We impact the world by demonstrating the Kingdom of God and inviting others to join it.
All who desire to join the SBPC Worship Team must be:
- Passionate about worshiping God
- Growing in their relationship with God
- Living lives that glorify God
- In agreement with the vision of SBPC to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ
- Committed members of SBPC
- Submitted to the leadership and direction of SBPC
- Committed to the vision and expectations of the SBPC Worship Team
- Called to serve God in this way
Personal Relationship with God: As worship leaders, called to lead others into the presence of God, it is vital that we are moving deeper in our relationship with God. We can only lead others if we are moving toward him ourselves. Our lives, on and off the stage, should exemplify deep commitment to God, his people and his purposes.
Church Attendance and Membership: Worship team members are expected to regularly attend SBPC services. If not already a member, team members, as church leaders, are expected to have a plan toward membership in the church.
Relationship to leadership, the team and the congregation: We need to commit to being aligned with our church leaders- praying for them, supporting them, submitting to them and moving with them as God directs. Our commitment is also to one another, serving with humility and respect, encouraging and supporting one another. In addition, we must be actively cultivating a heart for the people God has called us to lead.
Rehearsals: We honor each other's time by being punctual to rehearsals, so that we can maximize our limited time as efficiently as possible. We meet at 7:00 on Sunday mornings for rehearsal and soundcheck. The vocal team for the upcoming Sunday rehearses sometime during the week for an additional hour.
Team Gatherings: All team members will be asked to attend quarterly gatherings. Two times a year we meet as a team for updates on information, vision casting and other communication. Twice a year we gather with our families for fellowship and food.
Scheduling: Team members are asked to provide their availability and worship teams are scheduled two months at a time.
Dress Code: SBPC has an unofficial, casual dress code. When leading from the front, modest dress is required. Anything that draws attention to ourselves and takes the focus of God can hinder the worship experience. Contact me with specific questions.
Musical Preparation: We lead worship more effectively when everyone knows the music well. Band charts, lyrics and links to songs are sent out in advance. Everyone is expected to put in personal practice time during the week to learn and know their part, in order to lead confidently.
Once you have submitted your application, the worship leader will contact you to arrange an audition time. For the audition, you will be asked to :
- Share your faith story and musical background
- Play/sing one prepared worship song of your choice
- Play/sing two worship songs that we regularly sing in services
- Instrumentalists will be asked to sightread a band chart
- Vocalists will be asked to sing harmony as well as melody
Before you begin serving in worship services, you will be required to attend two Sunday morning rehearsals. This allows you to get an idea of how our rehearsals go, and will help you to know what to expect, and how to be prepared.
Sometimes it is evident that an applicant's musical skills have not developed enough to serve on a regular basis, or the musical style does not blend with our team. If this is the case, we will discuss ways to improve and/or other areas in the church you could serve.
