Who We Are As Growing Christians (cont'd)
The first important truth is that God created you for a purpose.
It says in Ephesians 2:10, "For we are what He has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life."
There's really no getting around it. You were created to serve God. God has designed life in such a way that we become our best selves, we discover real life, abundant life, by serving! A national pollster once did a survey of adults asking them what was most important for them to know before they die. The top two responses were: to understand their purpose and make a meaningful contribution. First, people wanted to be able to answer the question, why am I here? And secondly, people wanted to know that they could make a difference in the world.
How do we find our purpose? What are we created for? What contribution did God create me to make?
When you connect with God in a genuine life-giving relationship, He invites you to become the person you were created to be! He wants the church to be a place where we discover together how to grow the unique combination of gifts He has given to each of us!
We often think it's the "professional" ministers that are called to serve God. Look at Ephesians 4:11-13:
It was He (God) who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists,
and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service so that
the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of
the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Guess what? "God's people" are us! We are the ones who are to do the works of service. The "professionals" are the ones who are called to equip us for the contribution God wants us to make to his kingdom!
